Violence and neglect against children causes more than 3,500 annual deaths in developed nations. In these cases, almost 80 percent of the perpetrators are parents or caretakers. So how do you reach the child abuse victim if they are likely standing right next to their abuser?

The ANAR Foundation (Aid to Children and Adolescents at Risk) recently released a print campaign taking advantage of the process of lenticular printing that can send a message to battered children that their abusers will not see, even if they’re walking side by side.

I can check off dancing in public off my bucket list now. Held a mini flash mob in Market Square and gave out free t-shirts to students and random people for my thesis! Some instagramed/tweeted photos from people. Everyone supports the idea of students collaborating to raise awareness against violence!
Sooo if you have a twitter/instagram, use #weimprove say what ways you would improve your city against violence or submit  a pose photo of yourself in one of the two bottom poses & we’ll add it to our gallery to show people you would be an active bystander against violence.

The Blessing Bags Project

A group of friends got together before the year 2012 ended and organized a project they deemed The Blessing Bag Project. (Compiling 2 gallon sized plastic bags with necessities and snacks to gift to the less fortunate around the Nashville area.)

The group had 8 days to finish so they took to social media to ask friends and family to donate funds. Raising more than $300 was something that no one imagined happening–but it did! With that amount, the group was able to produce 32 blessing bags with 24 items in each.

We believe that everyone has a story and some instances are inevitable. Be kind to one another.

The “NO MORE” campaign
NO MORE is a simple idea with the power to unleash new, major  attention to the people all around us who are hurt – directly or indirectly — by domestic violence and sexual assault every day and every minute.  We all know someone who has been touched by this violence but still, domestic violence and sexual assault remain hidden and misunderstood.
NO MORE shines a spotlight on these issues.  Each of us can use NO MORE to stop the stigma, shame and silence for good. Like the peace sign, the “support our troops” ribbon or the AIDS ribbon, our goal is to use the NO MORE symbol to help unify all people and organizations who want to end domestic violence and sexual assault.
NO MORE was created by 50 individuals from many different backgrounds who were frustrated by the fact that even though domestic violence and sexual assault are devastatingly pervasive and widespread– impacting rich, poor, young , old, male, female, white, brown, black, from every region and religion– they aren’t a priority in this country.
It’s time to change that. It’s time to say NO MORE.

Thesis Ideas, opinions & thoughts?

1. Gender Identity (second selection) —- I have a lot of friends affected by gender pronouns/gender identity and have never done a project dealing with this subject yet. I think it could be beneficial to the universities or businesses, especially since UT is considering Gender Neutral housing)

Ob: Gender neutral pronouns and gender identity is becoming more accepted and well-known in the United States but official forms and written language still require male/female pronouns and lead to anxiety for people who do not use them.

Arg: Creating a educational game on understanding gender neutral pronouns can lead to a more acceptance among the general public

2. ASL (third selection) —- from visiting a lecture of a deaf and trans guy, I realized when I approached the main speaker that if the interpreter wasn’t there, how would I ask him the question?? In general, I think there is a huge disconnect in the non-hearing and hearing.

Ob: There is segregation amongst the hearing and non-hearing even with the technology available.

Arg: With a system of translating speech into American Sign language, it can help break the barriers between the hearing and non-hearing communities.

3. Domestic Violence (my 1st selection)—- since the 402 space project done last year, I’m doing independent photography again with Baldwin again and have a lot of resources currently that can aid in the research for this thesis

Ob: 1 out of 4 undergraduate women have been victims of domestic violence or sexual assault, but there are still fears and a stigma attached to reporting these cases to law enforcements.

Arg: A one-stop integrated system with universities and law enforcements can create better communications, resources for students, and decrease instances of domestic violence.

Designer Finn Magee doesn’t make ordinary posters. Take a closer look and you can see this multi-functional posters, which you can plug in and are ready to go. The idea for this series came from an interest in advertising and getting a new desk lamp.
Setting it up on his desk, the lamp seemed to lend a productive atmosphere to the space. Out of this he wondered if the functional or at least the visual qualities of the lamp could reproduced with a flat image and that is how ‘Flat Light’ was born. ‘Flat Time’ and ‘Flat Sound’ continue this investigation into whether products can be dematerialised yet keep the effects they promise to provide. Trained as a product designer, Magee creates critical objects which question how we consume objects and ideas, always including a little humour and surprise. By the way: they are available for order. iGNANT.de

I recently developed a Tumblr theme based on Indexhibit.
